Our Philosophy
In Year 1, we believe that children are active contributors to their own learning, and this is fostered through our child centred play-based learning approach in combination with the explicit teaching of Literacy, Numeracy, and other key learning areas. We support the development of early oral language skills to lay the foundations for future social and academic success.
Year 1 is an exciting time for children to find wonder in their world – a time to explore, create, imagine, improvise and test ideas. It is a time to take a risk knowing that a safe environment and caring people will be there to support them. It is a time to explore their own identity and sense of belonging, discover and delight in diversity and discover ways of relating to others.
At St Marcellin Catholic College, we believe children are strong, capable and resourceful learners who come to us with a history of knowledge, experience, culture and relationships, ready to explore these further.
