Learners in Year 3-6 are Creative Collaborators and Reflective Innovators.
In Year 3-6, St Marcellin Catholic College educators implement an integrated teaching programme which is based upon the WA Curriculum. It builds upon the strong foundations set in the early years, assisting students to develop skills in becoming resilient and confident learners.
As students move from a more play-based environment to one of inquiry, there is a greater reliance on independence and self-management skills. Through both inquiry and explicit instruction, students develop their ability to take positive action for well-being; relate and communicate well with others; pose questions and solve problems; make informed decisions and act responsibly.
Literacy and numeracy are prioritised across Year 3-6. Educators utilise, intentional, differentiated strategies to build the essential knowledge and skills in literacy, consolidating ‘learning to read and write’, as well as increasingly using literacy skills for ‘reading and writing to learn’.
Similarly, educators utilise hands-on resources and manipulatives to progress the development of specific mathematical skills and knowledge, providing opportunities for students to apply these skills in authentic and meaningful ways.
In Year 5 and 6 with the notion of Reflective Innovators. Students are provided with authentic opportunities to create new ideas and put them into action to address challenges, improve outcomes and inspire others.
